Our patch
The town itself, the suburbs that ring it at Barming, Allington, Grove Green, Weavering, Downswood, Tovil and Loose, and the villages spread across the Weald and up onto the downs: Bearsted, Boxley, Detling, Hollingbourne, Harrietsham, Lenham, Coxheath, Boughton Monchelsea, Sutton Valence, East Farleigh, Teston, Yalding, Marden, Staplehurst and Headcorn. If a decision changes daily life anywhere in that area, it belongs in the news, and if it is something people look up rather than read, it belongs in local info.
How the reporting works
Most of what we publish comes out of records anyone may see but few have time to read: the borough’s planning register and committee papers, police.uk crime data, Food Standards Agency inspections, The Gazette and official alerts. We name the source on every fact and link to it. When a record is ambiguous, we report the ambiguity rather than smoothing it over.
